Quantum key distribution using multilevel encoding: security analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose an extension of quantum key distribution based on encoding the key into quNits, i.e. quantum states in an N-dimensional Hilbert space. We estimate both the mutual information between the legitimate parties and the eavesdropper, and the error rate, as a function of the dimension of the Hilbert space. We derive the information gained by an eavesdropper using optimal incoherent attacks and an upper bound on the legitimate party error rate that ensures unconditional security when the eavesdropper uses finite coherent eavesdropping attacks. We also consider realistic systems where we assume that the detector dark count probability is not negligible. PACS numbers: 03.67.Dd, 03.67.Hk, 03.67.−a, 03.65.Ta

Optimal attacks on qubit-based Quantum Key Recycling
Quantum Key Recycling (QKR) is a quantum-cryptographic primitive that allows one to re-use keys in an unconditionally secure way. By removing the need to repeatedly generate new keys it improves communication efficiency. Škorić and de Vries recently proposed a QKR scheme based on 8-state encoding (four bases). It does not require quantum computers for encryption/decryption but only single-qubit...
متن کاملImplementation of continuous-variable quantum key distribution with composable and one-sided-device-independent security against coherent attacks
Secret communication over public channels is one of the central pillars of a modern information society. Using quantum key distribution this is achieved without relying on the hardness of mathematical problems, which might be compromised by improved algorithms or by future quantum computers. State-of-the-art quantum key distribution requires composable security against coherent attacks for a fi...
متن کاملDistributing Secret Keys with Quantum Continuous Variables: Principle, Security and Implementations
The ability to distribute secret keys between two parties with information-theoretic security, that is regardless of the capacities of a malevolent eavesdropper, is one of the most celebrated results in the field of quantum information processing and communication. Indeed, quantum key distribution illustrates the power of encoding information on the quantum properties of light and has far-reach...
متن کاملQuantum key distribution with bright entangled beams.
We suggest a quantum cryptographic scheme using continuous EPR-like correlations of bright optical beams. For binary key encoding, the continuous information is discretized in a novel way by associating a respective measurement, amplitude, or phase, with a bit value "1" or "0." The secure key distribution is guaranteed by the quantum correlations. No predetermined information is sent through th...
متن کاملQuantum Key Distribution with Multi Letter Phase-Shift Keying
We present a new protocol for quantum key distribution using discrete phase-shift encoding with continuous variables. The novelty of the protocol is multi letter alphabets represented by coherent states of light with fixed amplitude and variable phase. Information is encoded in the phase of a coherent states which can be chosen from a regular discrete set consisting of an arbitrary number of le...
